The story behind A+S

Welcome to Apricots and Sage -- a place where I talk about food that I think deserves to be talked about. The story behind the title? One of my first recipes I can remember being proud of was some mess of an “apricot and sage stuffed chicken" dish that I surprised my mom with for dinner one night. I was 8 years old, I’m sure it was nearly inedible, I had no idea what I was doing, and though I had already liked cooking for a few years prior, I think it was in this moment that my passion for it truly emerged. My mom ate every last bite out of support for this newfound love, and since then, apricots and sage are two ingredients that have remained staples in my kitchen.

About the author…

Hi! My name is Cecilia, I was born and raised in the south—Nashville, Tennessee and Greenville, Mississippi—and I’ve been obsessed with cooking since I was about 5 years old. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2023 with studies in Food, Nutrition, and Health and Journalism. Currently, I am a culinary arts student at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. Post culinary school, I am pursuing a career in the food media through culinary production and research and development, as well as food journalism.

I started A+S when I was 11 and have used it as a way to document my cooking and writing progress while sharing my recipes with whoever happens to stumble through. My cooking inspiration mostly comes from the food I grew up around—southern Delta soul food and Middle Eastern cuisine stemming from my Lebanese roots. Along with that, I credit this love of mine to growing up watching my parents cook dinner, drink wine, and dance in the kitchen nightly, treating Food Network and The Cooking Channel like it was Disney Channel, my ever-growing cookbook collection, the ridiculous amount of times I've watched "Julie and Julia," and many a trips to New Orleans, Louisiana (a.k.a, the best city in the world).

I hope you enjoy this site where I get to share what I love doing most.
