Recreation of Bobby Flay's French Toast Waffle

So the other day my mom and I were watching Brunch at Bobby's and he made a french toast waffle with peanut butter & homemade berry "syrup" among many other delicious brunch ideas. The next morning I decided to try it out, french toast is one of my favorite breakfast foods and my brother begged me to make it. But we weren't really into the whole peanut butter idea so I recreated it using my own french toast recipe and my own topping! Bobby also made a apple filling oatmeal so I decided to take the apple filling and make my own version of that as the topping... of course with powder sugar!

French Toast Waffles w/ Apple Cinnamon Chutney

French Toast:
3 eggs
6 pieces of fresh bread
2/3 cup 2% milk
3 tbs. cream
2 tbs. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Heat your waffle iron to your normal setting you use for waffles.

Mix the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla & almond, and cream in a medium sized bowl with a fork (to fluff it up more).

Dip the bread in it for a few seconds on each side (you dont need it too long because the fresh bread will absorb faster than stale bread.

Fit as many as you can on your GREASED waffle iron, I could only fit one but Bobby fit four.

Cook until golden and lightly crispy. Keep in a heater until ready to serve.

Apple Cinnamon Chutney
2 apples (whatever type you like best), diced and cored- not peeled
1/2 cup water
2 tbs brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon (total)
2 tbs. butter
1 tbs. white sugar
1 tbs. fresh orange juice & half zest

Over low heat cook the water, 1/4 tsp. of the cinnamon, and brown sugar until all the sugar is dissolved.

In a separate small bowl add the apples, melted butter, white sugar, and the other half of the cinnamon. Mix and coat every apple cube.

Add the apples to the water and add the orange juice & zest. Stir add a pinch of salt and cover. Set on medium-low for about 10 minutes until the apples are slightly soft and the sauce has reduced to a light syrup.

Pour the apple "chutney" over the waffles and top with powder sugar. Enjoy!
